NEW ZEALAND - Great barrier Island

Great Barrier Island is located approximately 60nm north East of Auckland, New Zealand. It measures approximately 35 kms long and 18 km wide at it's largest point.

The population of 600 makes this beautiful island mostly deserted.

This beautiful island is covered by thick vegetation from the top of the hills all the way down to the water.

Some of the sceneries and land scapes are truly majestic and make you feel like you are stepping back in time.

When:

We run one / two spearfishing charters to New Zealand per year  between January and early March based on bookings.

The next scheduled trips are:

14 - 21st January 2012 $ 1750

6 - 13th February 2012 $ 1750

Getting here:

You will fly into Auckland, where you will be transferred by minibus 1 hr away to North shore airport.

Here you will jump in a small plane and following a 25 minute flight you will arrive on the island. At the local airport a van will be waiting for us to takes us where we will be based for the week.

Diving:

This location is one of the best spots in New Zealand for snapper due to its high concentration producing fish up to 14 kg.

Its also abundant with some fine eating reef species such as Giant Boar fish, John Dory and pig fish just to name a few.

Kingfish is also in big numbers here ranging from 8 to 20 kg with the occasional monster between 30 - 40 kg.

Big Cray fish are also in no short supply here, with several species to choose from. They are spread all over the island in the first 5 metres of water.

Thanks to a myriad of Bays and coves you will always be able to find shelter away from the wind and chop to chase snapper in calm waters.
